Dixon is in the "banana belt" of Montana, so we have the longest growing season in the state. The Flathead River being right here has something to do with keeping the temps more moderate. Our town is fortunate enough to have a group of dedicated organic farmers who grow a variety of items from flowers to amaranth seeds. Many have heard of our Dixon Melons, but did you know we have the best organic garlic around? It's sold at the Good Food Store in Missoula, but we stock up every year before it leaves town.

Our friends Bob and Patty have the Fialky Farm. I try to make it over there at least once every year to shoot photos before the first frost, to catch the gorgeous fields of flowers while they're still in bloom. They grow more than veggies and flowers, as you can see here. They have three beautiful kids, and more critters than I can count. I'm rather fond of the pigs, myself. They're just so photogenic! I made a batik inspired by her zinnia fields,
which you can find on the art page.

Patty also sells her products at the Farmers' Market in Missoula
during the summer months. This year's has just begun.
